In 1960s Miriam Makeba and Hugh Masekela got popular hits in USA. Ravi Shankar played sitar at Woodstock pop festival. They were examples of third world music. * In 70s Manu Dibango had funky hit "Soul Makossa"(1972) and Osibisa released "Sunshine Day"(1976). 1980s as a marketing category for non-Western traditional music. It has grown to include hybrid subgenres such as world fusion, global fusion, ethnic fusion, and worldbeat. Mory Kante had club hit in 1987. |
