(Sarah of the Clue Crew demonstrates the clue.) It would seem that blowing into the bottle would force the paper ball inside; however, the fast-moving air goes past the paper & hits the bottom of the bottle, increasing this 8-letter term inside, & forces the paper out |
(Jon of the Clue Crew releases a balloon.) Thrust comes from the sudden inequality of this, sometimes measured in atmospheres, inside & outside a rocket |
When you are "under" this, a manometer will measure it |
According to Boyle's Law, when a gas is compressed to half its size, this doubles |
In the "ideal gas law", pV equals RT, it's what the "p" stands for |

Metamorphic rocks are divided into 2 main types depending on how they were formed: by heat or by this |
Dalton's law says that the total amount of this exerted by a mix of gases is the sum of what each gas would exert alone |
(Sarah of the Clue Crew gives the clue as she and Kelly demonstrate a potato gun.) A potato gun demonstrates Boyle's Law using a simple tube & a stick; pushing the stick reduces the volume of air and increases this 8-letter term, making the potato go ballistic |

Pressure description |
---|
Pressure (symbol: p or P) is the force applied perpendicular to the surface of an object per unit area over which that force is distributed. Gauge pressure (also spelled gage pressure) is the pressure relative to the ambient pressure. * Various units are used to express pressure. Some of these derive from a unit of force divided by a unit of area; the SI unit of pressure, the pascal (Pa), for example, is one newton per square metre; similarly, the pound-force per square inch (psi) is the traditional unit of pressure in the imperial and US customary systems. Pressure may also be expressed in terms of standard atmospheric pressure; the atmosphere (atm) is equal to this pressure, and the torr is defined as 1760 of this. Manometric units such as the centimetre of water, millimetre of mercury, and inch of mercury are used to express pressures in terms of the height of column of a particular fluid in a manometer. |
